As property prices across America begin to recover from the global financial crisis, seeing both demand and prices rise, buyers are being given the chance to live in a home that was owned by Olympic record maker Michael Phelps.
The home of Phelps has been placed on the market for a price of $1.42 million and is a chance to own a piece of history as the former dwelling place of the world's greatest Olympic athlete.
Phelps, who has won 19 gold medals and has 22 Olympic medals in total, retired at this year's London 2012 Olympics. Born in Townson, Maryland, his home, which is located in Fells Point in Baltimore is a luxurious three-bedroom beach waterfront bachelor pad. It has been described as a great place to eat, drink and party, and is fitted out with glass walls which afford splendid views over Baltimore's Inner Harbour. Other features of the property include a stainless steel kitchen and a hot tub located on the fifth floor roof terrace.
The fact that his property has been placed up for sale at this time shows that faith is returning to the US property market after what have been a number of tough years. Phelps originally purchased the home in 2008 before the property crash truly took hold and paid $1.69 million for it. While the sale price shows that the market has not quite fully recovered, the decision to place it up for sale demonstrates that the market is heading in the right direction.
