The Mayo Clinic is intending to go ahead with projects that total more than $4.6 million of investment at its campus in Southside, which comes after the $97 million investment in the area that was announced seven months ago back in May.
The clinic says, and public records show, that Mayo is intending to develop a 14,890 square foot, $3.2 million dialysis center at Worrall Way for the Southside campus, with engineer Prosser Hallock having filed site developments plans late last month for review with the City.
It is anticipated that construction on the new center will start in March next year, with the construction to be more or less completed by November. The center is to move from St Vincent’s Medical Center Southside as of the end of next year.
The clinic has also reported that the dialysis center will be constructed next door to the Mayo Clinic Sleep Center and feature three home training bays and 24 treatment bays, as well as consulting, examination and other associated staff areas. It is to be designed in order to accommodate both stretcher and mobile patients.
Mayo is also planning a $1.7 million renovation of its community pharmacy, which is located on the first floor of the campus’ Davis Building. Plans and a building permit application show that the contractor for the project, which will cover 5,292 square feet, is Danis Construction. A $367,377 renovation of a bio-bank storage area is also planned, as well as an $80 million addition of two new floors and 90 beds for its campus hospital and an off-site primary care center to be constructed at a cost of $16.7 million.
Around 500 construction jobs and 250 new clinic jobs will be added as a result of the projects, says Dr William Rupp, the CEO of Mayo Clinic Florida.
